![]() |
November 11, 2009 • Mandel JCC - 7:30pm Chris Bohjalian is the author of eleven popular novels including The Double Bind and the Law of Similars. He also wrote the New York Times best-seller Midwives, which was chosen for Oprah's book club and later turned into a movie. His most recent novel Skeleto ns at the Feast was inspired in part by an actual diary given to him by a friend. Bohjalian's eleventh novel ambitiously tackles one of the most brutal periods in human history - the last six months of World War II in Poland and eastern Germany. Drawing upon interviews with Holocaust survivors and Germans who were alive at the time, Bohjalian throws readers into the heart of Nazi Germany. His novel follows a family of Prussian aristocrats who become separated. The remaining family members must flee or risk being executed. Their riveting journey takes them through a ravaged countryside and tells the story of ordinary people coping with extraordinary circumstances. As one reviewer exclaimed, it's "The perfect novel for a book club... this book sucked me right in. It's vivid and heart-wrenching."
