Ari Golub
Director of Day Camps

Ari has more than 14 years of professional experience managing children’s programs and services at Jewish Community Centers around the country. Ari is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University with a B.S. in Elementary Education and Communications.

He was chosen to serve as a Fellow for the prestigious Jewish Experiential Leadership Institute. As an educator, mentor and leader in the Jewish community, Ari is constantly seeking creative ways to foster a dynamic learning and social environment and to promote high quality programming for children of all ages. He believes the social, recreational and educational experiences children receive in JCC settings are invaluable.

Hayley Ryshen
Assistant Director of Children & Day Camping

Hayley oversees Kids' Club Afterschool Care, enrichment programs and vacation camps. She has a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and a master’s degree in school counseling from John Carroll University. She was recently chosen for the prestigious and competitive Merrin Teen Professional Fellows Program.

Hayley has worked at the Mandel JCC since 2007. She is passionate about working with and bringing out the best in children and is looking forward to leading another amazing summer at The J!

Joe Bornadero
J-Sports Camp Director

Joe Bordonaro is the newest member of the J-Day Camp staff.  In addition to leading J-Sports Camp, Joe will also develop a broad spectrum of year-round sports and recreation programming such as soccer, tennis, volleyball and basketball leagues, classes and/or clinics for children, teens and adults. Joe attended East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina where he received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Recreational Management and Services. He spent the last eight years with Walt Disney World Resort in Florida in a variety of management roles ranging from guest services to recreation.

Sheri Gross
Director of Playmakers Performing Arts Camp

This is Sheri’s 19th season as the director of the Performing Arts Camp.

“Every year I am amazed at the magic that the campers and counselors create on stage and off! I can think of nothing better than to spend the summer surrounded by singing, laughter, smiles and friendship. That is EVERY summer at Playmakers.”


Lynne Berliner
Director of Playland Preschool Camp

Lynne has been Playland’s co-director for 12 years and has been a preschool teacher at the Mandel JCC for 17 years. She has a bachelor's of science in elementary education.

"Each summer I look forward to introducing our youngest campers to the wonderful experience of camping at The J"


Joan Morgenstern
Director of Playland Preschool Camp

Joan Morgenstern is Director of Early Childhood Services at the Mandel JCC and also directs Playland Preschool Camp. She has more than 20 years of experience as an Early Childhood classroom teacher and school administrator. Joan is passionate about her work with young children and is committed to supporting parents as they meet the everyday challenges of rearing young children.

She received her certification in Early Childhood Education from Chatham College in Pittsburgh and her master’s degree in Supervision and Administration of Education from Bank Street College of Education in New York. Joan is an approved instructor for the state-initiated early childhood rating system called Step-Up-To-Quality.

Meet our Supervisors:

Cathy Kantin
J-Teen Camp Coordinator

Cathy Kantin, a middle school teacher in the Hudson City School District, returns for her second year as the J-Teen Camp Coordinator. Cathy has over twenty-five years of camp experience including directing the Mandel JCC JCC Travel Camp and Camp Gan Israel of Solon. She lives in Solon with her husband Bob and three children and enjoys traveling, reading, and sports.


Mike Labagh
Aquatic Coordinator

Before coming to The J, Mike was an Aquatic Director for a YMCA in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Mike has been swimming competitively since 2004, swam in college for 3 years and has been coaching competitive high school and college swimming for five years. He is a certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor, TRX Instructor, Certified Pool Operator


Amanda Pomerantz
Shoresh Bet Supervisor

Amanda Pomerantz, 24, of Solon, studied at Ohio University, majoring in Education. She works at the Mandel Jewish Community Center and is pursuing a career as a high school English teacher. This is Amanda’s third summer as Anisfield Day Camp’s Shoresh supervisor, and her fifth summer working with all the great campers, families, and staff members at J-Day Camps! 


Lyle Reed
Aquatics Director

Aquatics Director Lyle Reed has more than 19 years of experience in recreation and aquatics, and has been managing the aquatics department at the Mandel JCC since 1998. He manages The J’s Indoor and Outdoor Pools and Spray Ground and oversees our American Red Cross Swim Lessons, Water Exercise Programs, Aquatics Personal Training and Lifeguard Training. He also manages swim lessons and instructions for J-Day Camps. He is a Certified Pool Operator, an American Red Cross Certified lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor and Life Guard Instructor and teaches CPR and First Aid. Lyle has a bachelor’s degree in education and recreation from Central State University. Before coming to The J, he worked as Assistant Aquatics Director at the University of Akron.


Ashley Rabin
Geza Supervisor

Ashley Rabin is so excited for her first summer at camp! She has a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and a Master's Degree from New York University. She currently works as a speech therapist in Cleveland. She can't wait for the summer to begin!!
