The movie dramatizes the tension between the traditional and the modern, the secular and the sacred, through its story of a young Jewish man who causes a serious rift with his rabbi father when he leaves the shtetl to become a stage actor in Vienna. “[A] lost masterpiece” —Jerusalem Post.
