Date: October 13, 2013

The World is Funny
Sun October 13 / 7 pm / Shaker Square
Director: Shemi Zarhin • Israel, Hebrew, 2012, 122 minutes

clientuploads/FilmFest/FilmFest2013/WorldisFunny.jpgIsrael’s number one box office hit that garnered a record-breaking 15 Ophir Award nominations, The World is Funny is a multilayered exploration of past traumas and reconciliation. Set in Tiberias, the plot consists of interesting vignettes that grow in complexity as the film progresses. The central characters are estranged siblings who have endured childhood abandonment only to face new challenges in adulthood. These seemingly unconnected siblings gradually reconnect through a common interest: a comedic group called HaGashash HaHiver.
