More-To-Explore
(For Pre-K children only)
More-to-Explore is an innovative afternoon enrichment program designed for the Pre-K student who can benefit from an extended day at school.
- The class meets Monday-Friday, following morning preschool, from 12:30 p.m. -2:30 p.m.
- Children in More-to-Explore come together each afternoon as a group of learners from two different morning Pre-K classes.
- Pre-K students enrolled in Preschool Plus are automatically a part of the More-to-Explore program.
The More-to-Explore classroom model is one of "study" and "investigation."
- Children explore different units based on their emerging interests as well as on the provocations of the teacher.
- Each area of study is pursued for approximately one to two weeks.
- Children are exposed to several different mediums and learn to work within longer periods of unstructured time.
Strong parent/teacher communication is a benchmark of the More-to-Explore program.
- Parents are invited to attend a meeting before the start of school which outlines the goals and objectives of the program.
- Teachers initiate a fall telephone conferences with parents at the beginning of the academic year.
- In February, teachers meet in-person with parents to discuss their child's growth and progress.
- Classroom newsletters are sent home, bi-monthly, or more frequently; this keeps parents better informed and involved in their child's unique school experiences.
More-to-Explore promotes children's intellectual growth and development.
- This program fosters children's natural love of learning.
- It encourages children to become active investigators, seeking meaningful information, acquiring important knowledge, and developing skills that promote their success in future learning.
- Kindergarten teachers consistently rave about the school readiness skills and intellectual acuity of the children who have previously participated in this program.
