2 Year Old Program

(Child must turn 2 by September 30th to enroll in class)

Two year olds can be outrageously unpredictable! They are just beginning to assert their independence and their favorite words are usually "Mine," "No" and "I do it!" Two-year-olds emotions run very fluid; in a moments notice they can go from excitement to anger to laughter. They spend a great deal of time in motor activities exploring, pushing, filling, dumping and touching.

Program Features:

  • Monday-Tuesday Morning
  • 9:15-11:15 am
  • A music specialist works with the children one morning a week
  • Children have gross motor play once a week in our full size gym.

Daily Schedules
The children’s daily schedule is flexible enough to provide adaptability when necessary but structured enough to provide predictability for the children. We want them to view their school as a safe and comforting place, where they know what to expect and when to expect it. A typical preschool day would include:

9:15 am • Greeting and Discovery time (includes art activities and open centers for choice
10:15 am • Handwashing/snack
10:30 am • Special activity time (Music or Gym)
11:00 am • Circle time (includes finger-plays songs, and a story.
11:15 am • Goodbye & Dismissal time)

Individualized Attention to Separation

  • Each child develops a "transfer of trust" from parent/caregiver to teacher at his/her own pace. Some children are able to attend school alone after just a few visits; other children need significant time to feel that they can manage their bodies and their thoughts in the classroom without their "anchor" - their parent or caregiver. Teachers work collaboratively with parents to determine the right time to promote each child's healthy separation.

Goals for the Class

  • Healthy separation from parent or caregiver
  • Body mastery
    • Children learn to dress themselves
    • Clean up after themselves
    • Take care of daily activities (such as pouring juice.)
  • Children learn to become part of a community of learners
    • They practice taking turns
    • Begin to follow teacher directions
    • They learn to notice and respond to others in their environment
  • They explore different materials and resources in their classroom environment
    • They engage in ongoing sensory experiences
    • They mess, create and construct
    • They engage in "hands-on" learning

Please Note: Children do not need to be toilet trained to register for this class. However, a parent/caregiver will need to be available to change a child's soiled diaper.
