We are delighted to announce that this year's winner of The Mandel JCC's 2010 Dorothy Silver Playwriting Competition is Laura Jacqmin (pronounced Jackman), a '00 Shaker Heights Grad. The play, G dash D, is a contemporary tale of a secular Jewish couple who has just given birth to their first child and quickly discover that they have very different ideas about how big a role religion should play in their lives.

The Mandel JCC will present a staged reading of G DASH D at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 25 in the Brooks Theatre at the Cleveland Play House, as part of the fifth annual FusionFest 2010. Brian Zoldessy will direct the reading.

The playwright will be in town for the staged reading.

About the Play, G dash D
When secular Jews Simon and Yael have their first child, they decide to go all out: joining a temple, learning Hebrew and – as scary as it sounds – believing in G-d. But they quickly figure out that they have very different ideas about how big a role religion should play in their lives. Can a person just decide to believe in something? And when a couple splits down the middle about their beliefs, how can they be made whole again?
