The Dorothy Silver Playwriting Competition is an international writing competition for plays about the Jewish experience. For over twenty years countless plays with Jewish themes have been submitted to the competition and many past winners have been produced and received national recognition.
The judging panel is comprised of seasoned theatre professionals drawn from the Cleveland area, including producers, directors, actors and critics. Dorothy Silver, for whom the competition is named, is a well-known and respected theatre professional who served as the Mandel JCC’s Cultural Arts Department director for many years.
ELIGIBILITY
The Mandel JCC seeks submissions to the annual Dorothy Silver Playwriting Competition.
- Plays submitted must be the original work of the playwright (adaptations and translations are not eligible)
- The play content must include a fresh perspective on the Jewish experience
- The works must be full-length, previously unpublished and never fully produced (plays that have been developed in readings or workshops are admissible)
- No FAX or email entries will be accepted
- Postmark deadline: December 31 annually
PRIZE
- $1,000 honorarium (to be used toward travel)
- Staged reading of winning play by the Mandel Jewish Community Center at Fusion Fest, winning playwright is strongly encouraged to attend:
